Hare Polish King of Carat Flowers from Finder's Keepers Collection

I was at Target recently looking at some infant clothing which was coincidentally next to the ladies sleepwear section.  In that section I did a double take when I saw some adult sized onesie type footed pajamas.  You know the kind, the ones that are a full body suit that zip up from bottom to neck, that have full sleeves and enclosed footies typically made for infants.  In fact, my daughter wears one every night.  But adult sized?  Really?  No one in their right mind would actually buy those much less wear them.  Oh boy, was I wrong.  Today I was at a grocery cafe enjoying my lunch and in walks a young lady wearing hunter print fleece onesie pajamas.  Oh. Em. Gee.  Of course she completed her outfit with a pair of Uggs.  I snapped a picture of her but my good conscious won't let me post it in case she ever ran across this blog.  Instead I'll post a photo of the onesie for you to imagine.  When did this become ok to wear in public in broad daylight?  Did I miss a memo?

I got Hare mail today so I've got another review of her polishes for you.  This time it's King of Carat Flowers, one of my biggest lemmings from her fall Finder's Keepers collection.  I received this in my order as a surprise gift from Nikole so you can totally imagine my glee when I saw it in the package.  I guess you can say it was her way of making up for a mistake in a previous order that was sent to me.  This is a small example of her dedication to her customers and another reason why I'm such a huge fan of her line.  King of Carat Flowers is a stunning combination of gold and lavender multi sized hex and square glitter in a pale lavender crelly base.  The formula was a touch thick but it was workable and not so thick that I needed to add any thinner to it. I used two coats in these pics followed with a layer of Gelous and Poshe to smooth out the polish because it dried fairly bumpy.  Now that I'm finally wearing it I don't know whether or not it complements my skin tone, but it's still a keeper for me regardless because I adore the color combination of this glitter polish.

I tried to look up King of Carat Flowers to find out what Nikole's inspiration was for this beautiful color but the only information I could find is that it's a title of a song(King of Carrot Flowers).  Does anyone have any more information about the name of this polish?

  2. The song King of Carrot Flowers is about a love that begins in childhood and develops in the midst of dysfunctional and violent circumstances. My feeling is that King of Carat Flowers could be an interpretation of the beauty and escapism of such a love. The change of "carrot" to "carat," besides respecting copyright and avoiding over-obvious references to the song, reflects the inclusion of yellow and gold glitters in the polish. Carrot flowers grow wild are also known as Queen Anne's Lace, beautiful to the eye and to the mind as they do resemble lace and contain their own poetic references. But only Nikole can say what her inspiration was in creating this lovely polish.

To me, this polish is understated, elegant and exquisitely romantic. The delicate combination of colors, the amounts and ratios to each other of the glitters are in my opinion part of Nikole's most striking hallmarks as a formulator. The beauty of King of Carat Flowers is at once ornate and organic, provocative and delicate. It reminds me of Oceans of Alloys in this way. I love them both, but Oceans of Alloys is probably my favorite of the Hare polishes that I've tried.

And I agree, King of Carat Flowers does look gorgeous on you!

    1. Wow, thank you so much for the insightful comment! I really had no idea how involved the title of the polish could be. To be honest, I didn't really research the song too much, but now I will. Heck, I might need to pull this polish out again, your description of it has made me fall in love with it all over again. Thanks so much!

    2. I have to tell you that it was YOUR post that prompted me to investigate the song! When I did, the name of the polish totally made sense to me. I do a very amateur (having neither the nails nor the skills for more) private nail polish blog for my niece and in a post featuring King of Carat Flowers I'd tried to describe the polish with some visual imagery that occurred to me kind of spontaneously as I was applying it. After listening to the song and reading the lyrics, I saw that parts of my imagery really fell in with some of imagery in the song, there were aspects that had eerie similarities. It could be coincidence, but given Nikole's artisanal skill I'm more inclined to think it isn't. Also, a la Greg House (of House MD, have you ever seen that show?): I don't believe in coincidences. Mostly. *lol*

    3. I probably should have thought to listen to the song myself - I am intrigued and will need to rectify that to hopefully see that imagery that you're referring to. The colors in the polish go so well together, I can only imagine that the song plays the colors out just as well.

I would love to see the blog that you do for you niece - if you get a chance, please feel free to post the link here so I can check it out!

    4. It's a very good song, you can find it on YouTube.

Are you SURE you want to see my blog? I warn you, the fingers and photos that you will see there are a HOT MESS compared to yours. It's a private blog so I may need to add your email address to the reader list. I sent you a message through Google+.
