Happy Hands Laughing In The Dark Swatch And Review

Purchased

Happy Monday!  Is there such a thing?  Anyhoo, I hope you enjoyed your weekend... Mine was quieter than usual, mostly because I lost my cell phone somewhere in the bedroom.  Strange - I know I had it before I went to bed but in the morning it poofed and disappeared.  I can't find it anywhere.    It was nice being disconnected from the world and not constantly checking emails or instagram, but at the same time I feel out of the loop.  I guess this is what life feels like without the easy access of a cell phone.  When's the last time you went cell phone free for more than a day?

Today I have a new to me indie brand called Happy Hands Laughing In The Dark.  I was drawn to this polish because of the juicy grape colored jelly base and the matte round glitters in yellow, red, orange, purple and pink.  I love the way the matte colors contrast strikingly against the purple jelly.  I didn't love, however, the formula - it was thick but sheer and took four coats until I was happy with the opacity.  Some of the glitters dragged during application as well, and some wanted to come off the free edge of my nail.  It takes some extra concentration to apply this evenly and smoothly without getting bald patches.  It dried matte so I used a layer of topcoat to add shine and smooth down the glitters.

I love the combination of glitters in this, from the large red hex glitters and large yellow circles to the small purple and yellow glitters.  It's a perfect combination of colors and it surprisingly works well with the purple base, a color that I wouldn't think to choose had it been me to create this polish.  I have to give credit though, despite the difficult to work with formula, it's hard to make a pigmented jelly base that is easy to apply.  This vaguely reminds me of another indie polish, Smitten Polish Look To The Western Sky, except the purple leans more red and the glitters are brighter against the base.  Even though this one was hard to apply, I am definitely willing to try more from Happy Hands Polish because the color combinations are so bright and cheerful.  Have you ever tried anything from this brand, and did you have any difficulty with application?

  1. "Poofed and disappeared," lol! Thithi, you crack me up! I don't even own a cell phone. I know, right? My sister had to buy me an answering machine.

I can see why you were drawn to this polish! The colors are scrumptious!! It's that orange in there with the other sunset colors and the purple, so fabulous. It reminds me of Look To The Western Sky, too. I remember when you swatched that polish, your post made me want that polish so bad but I never did get it and regret it to this day. You must try CrowsToes Indian Summer and HellHound, you would love those two....

    1. Oh baby jebus, how can you not have a cell phone? In all honesty, I never use my laptop unless I typing up a blog post - everything else I do on my phone because LO won't let me near my laptop during the day. The cell phone is the only way I can sneak any internet time in when she's awake, LOL!

I agree, those colors are fantabulous together in this polish.... I just wish that formula wasn't such a PITA! If you ever want a decant of the Smitten Polish, I'd be happy to send it!!

  2. I've never tried this brand, but I really like the bottles/labels! This one is cute too, it's a crazy glitter mix but it works :)

  4. Oops, typo. That's what I get for being up so early. Anyway, I think this one is gorgeous but that's too bad about the formula. Happy Hands has a lot of other gorgeous polishes though. I have a small collection of them going on and although I can't comment on the formula, since I have yet to try them out, they are so pretty in the bottles. My favorites are Sandcastles In The Sand, Lady Goodman, and Am I Not Yours?. Oh and Flowers On The Highway is definitely a must try in my opinion. That was the first Happy Hands I ever wanted.

    2. I'm the same way with my polish purchases. I try to buy most of them during sales. I miss posting too! It's just a mixture of me being busy with work and getting a little burned out. I guess I needed the break. I have about three posts ready to go, so I'll be back real soon! I have lots of Christmas polishes I'll be showing.
