Hello my dears!  Whew I've had a crazy week which didn't leave much time for posting.  Work has been kicking my butt again, and next week doesn't promise to be any easier.  In the meantime, I need to get it out of my mind and enjoy the weekend!  Do you have any fun plans for the three day weekend?  A bbq perhaps?

I was going through my drawers recently and pulled out my untrieds to swatch.  A lot of times they end up prematurely in my drawers because of visiting guests, and then I lose track of where I put them.  One of those lost but now found untrieds is Jindie Nails Taste Like Snozberries, a tpf swapbox polish I received.  Jindie Nails is always a good go to indie brand when I need a glitter polish fix, and this one certainly fits that bill.  It's a pepto bismol pink crelly loaded with varying sized pink circles and hexes, as well as other variants of white, purple, blue, and teal glitters.  The first coat was really sheer, but three coats built up easily with very little stacking.  I used a layer of topcoat, but in retrospect I could have used Gelous to smooth out those larger glitters.

 I love how much depth this polish has, especially with three layers worth of generous glitters.  This is a fun, girly polish that reminds me of one of LOs toys that invariably squeak or sound out whenever I'm remotely nearby.  Out of curiosity, I looked up the image of snozberries from Willie Wonka's movie, and yup, I can totally see the inspiration of this polish from the colors in the lickable wallpaper.  I'm not sure I'd ever enjoy such a concept, but I certainly enjoy snozberries on my fingertips!  Luckily Taste Like Snozberries is still available in the Jindie storefront if you're interested.

Happy Monday!  Did you enjoy your weekend?  The weather was beautiful, and we spent some at the park letting LO to play.  We also ran some errands and got our hair cut.  I've been wanting to get LO's hair cut too, just some shaping to tame the errant strands, but I'm nervous about her getting her first haircut and being near sharp scissors.  She, like any todder, has no attention span and will want to be up and about within minutes of sitting down!

I have another lovely Polishaus for you today, and this sleeper of a beauty is called Dark Rainbows.  It's got a light grey cream base with multicolored glitters in all shapes and sizes.  The glitter effect is very subtle but has a lovely elegance to it.  The formula is wonderfully creamy and easy to apply, with no clumping or stacking of glitter.  Make sure to give the brush a few swipes along the neck so that pooling can be avoided when applying towards the cuticles.  I used two luscious coats here and finished with topcoat to add a glossy shine.

It looks like some of the larger glitters got stuck in the bottle, because I spy some large pink and black circles in there.  I managed to get mostly the smaller glitters and a couple larger hexes out, which still makes for delightful eye candy.  My favorite is the tiny pink glitters and the yellow and blue accent glitters.  I believe in a previous post I mentioned that Polishaus was closing shop, but fortunately she retracted her decision and plans on re-opening some time in the future.  Keep an eye out for her creations, because you won't want to miss them!

I think I've finally found my HG nail polish remover, and that's a DIY solution of pure acetone mixed with water and glycerin, a la loodie loodie loodie style.  The key to the removal is what has taken me a long time to learn, and that's not with foil or with cotton pads and swabs.  It's a scrubby tub.  I use to scoff at the scrubby tub, but after using it for a month, I don't think I could ever go back to anything else.  It removes glitters and polishes in seconds, and leaves no annoying lint behind.  It can be more drying than using a swab or pad, but the glycerin helps keep the fingers moisturized during the removal.  The only downfall is that I think I've loosened the brushes too much and I'm in need of a new tub!

Today's mani started with one of my favorite yellows, American Apparel Manila, aptly named after the shade of a manila envelope.  It glides on easily, just be careful to not overload the brush because the formula is a bit on the watery side.  There's no streaking at all and it coats fully after two rounds.  I didn't use a topcoat in these pics  Behold the awesomeness of an amazing yellow cream!

I've been wanting to use Elixir Lacquer Snowman Suite ever since I first saw it in the TPF swap box as a koi inspired mani.  Layered over Manila, I think it creates that effect fairly well, and looks like orange, white, and black spots over golden yellow scales.  I used two layers of Snowman Suite here, and had some difficulty manipulating the polish because it was thick and sparse in glitters.  Most of the glitters had sunken to the bottom already and I had to fish out some of them to get the glitters to cover the nails evenly.  This is finished with a layer of topcoat.

I really like the iridescent mini glitters in Snowman Suite, here it looks like bubbles of water while looking down at the koi.  I'm sure the intent was to mimic snow, and overall, I love the matte white, orange, and black glitter combination as a glitter topcoat.  If I was patient enough for it to dry down all the way, and had the right plates, I would stamp some koi fish in black.  Alternately, it looks like strikingly similar to a yellow taxi cab.  What do you do when glitter topcoats are thick and lacking in glitters to cover properly?

I've been itching to wear this gorgeous purple shimmer ever since I did some nail art with it, and I'm so glad I finally got around to wearing it.  This is Essence Color & Go Oh My Glitter!, a perfect lavender with tons of sparkling pink shimmer.  The formula was smooth and excellent and applied with no streaks.  Two coats may have sufficed for shorter nails but I used three here for good measure.  This is without topcoat.

I was inspired by the pink shimmer to add a pink glitter topcoat.  The closest I could find in my collection was KBShimmer Toastess With The Mostest.  I wish there was a bit more pink, but then again, this glitter topcoat is pretty amazing with all the fabulous circle glitters in pink, silver, and gold.  I finished this with a layer of topcoat.

What a perfect spring combination!  I love how the silver and gold circle glitters highlight the pastel pink and purple.  If a mani could be effervescent, this would be it!  I guess that's why Toastess With The Mostest is such a fitting name for a circle glitter topcoat.  Are you a fan of spring pastels or do you run the other direction?

Above The Curve Indian Summer Swatch And Review

Was it a full moon yesterday or what?  All sorts of cray blew up yesterday, and it all started with that crazy earthquake that woke me up at 6:30am in the morning.  The rest of the day went down hill from there, but at least ended on a fun note when we went shopping for LO's Purim costume for today.  She's going to be a fairy ballerina, complete with little wings to dance around with.  Oh, and you betcha that I finished St Paddy's with a beer, after all, I needed it!

Today I have one of my polish picks from the TPF Indie Exchange called Indian Summer by Above The Curve.  Unfortunately I don't believe it's available anymore as it was an LE released last summer.  The base is a sheer fuchsia jelly that builds up to opacity in two to three coats, and within that squishy jelly is a multitude of glitters in all shapes and sizes, notably some pink circles, iridescent squares, purple and cinnamon hexes, and pink stars.  I used three coats here to maximize glitter coverage and minimize VNL.  I had no difficulty with application other than some mild clumping of glitters.  It dries to a satin shine and needs a couple layers of topcoat to smooth the glitters down and add shine.

I don't normally wear pinks but I was drawn to this polish because of it's colorful mix of glitters that blend together beautifully.  If I could paint LO's nails, this is what she'd be wearing with her costume today!  Above The Curve masterfully mixes together glitters to create unique showstopping polishes.  Currently she's got a ton of holos in her lineup, so be sure to check out her cartel site. 

Different Dimensions Orion Nebula Swatch And Review

Have you ever obsessed over something that was out of stock?  What am I talking about, if you're a female, then yes you have.  Currently I'm obsessing over a pair of shoes that I saw on instagram and that are currently out of stock online... I'm waiting for the first minute the store is open to call and ask if they can do a sku search for the item.  Hopefully they'll have it available for order!  What's the last thing you obsessed about that was possibly unattainable?

I've been wanting to try a circle glitter jelly ender since I first discovered swatches of them and I finally took the plunge with Different Dimensions version called Orion Nebula.  It's got a black jelly base and fuchsia circles in various sizes.  The base is sheer and the circles are few, and I needed for coats until I was satisfied with opacity. I turned the bottle upside down between costs so I could grab more glitters on the brush but I still had to fish for the larger circle glitters.  When I did manage to get one, of course it had to be one that had another clinging onto it and stacked upon the nail.  I finished with topcoat to add shine.

I noticed that I had quite a bit of bubbling, and I chalked it up to the me agitating the bottle too much to get those elusive large circles.  The bubbling is worth it though, look at that beautiful holo effect on those circles!  I like the overall spacey effect but I wish there were more of those holo circles.  Have you tried circle glitter jelly polishes before?

Another Monday, another dollar.  At least I had a nice weekend catching up with friends, and I got to do my taxes as well.  I'm looking forward to getting a decent sized refund, which will probably go straight into daycare expenses.  I also watched a ton of Freaks And Geeks, a show that I never knew existed while it aired.  I can't get enough of it, and I love seeing how young the show characters are compared to what they look like now.  Have you ever seen this show before?

I realized that I haven't used a Pahlish in a little while, so I pulled out Drink The Sea, a lovely mint green cream with accents of gold circles and green hex glitters.  The only downside was that application wasn't easy - it was streaky and didn't self level well.  I had to use four coats to cover up the patchiness, and once dry, you can see some of the pooled areas.  Meh.  I tried adding topcoat to smooth it out but it didn't hide all the flaws.  I had similar experiences with other white cream based Pahlishes, which makes me think it's a formula issue when it comes to the lighter creams.

I think the base color of this is amazing, but it's a shame it's so hard to apply.  I know I've definitely had other brands with similar color that applied beautifully.  The gold and green hexes add to the subtle tonality of this polish, giving me a hint of what to expect when spring finally arrives. With winter coming to a slow end, I can't wait to see more uplifting spring shades.  Are you already wearing pastels, or are you still enjoying the dark vampy colors of winter?
