Pipe Dream Polish Moving Sidewalks Over NYC Pool Time Swatch And Review

The weekend is over too quickly, and another work week has started. I did get the opportunity to sleep in on Sunday, thanks to my sweet husband who made sure to play with LO once she woke up. We spent the day with the in-laws and trekked down to OC to get some vegetarian Vietnamese food. Coming from NC, they always make it a point to get some Vietnamese food when they're in town. Later in the evening we got to see some of their friends, and they were amazed how much LO has grown since the last time they saw her. Time flies by so quickly!

Today I've got a matte glitter topper by Pipe Dream Polish called Moving Sidewalks. I reviewed some of her other polishes in a previous post which also featured another matte glitter topper that I was unhappy with. April, the owner of Pipe Dream Polish, contacted me after reading my review and offered to send me a new version that she had in the works. Moving Sidewalks contains small yellow and blue glitters, medium size blue glitters, and larger pink and yellow squares and larger white hex glitters. I had no difficulty at all with the application of the glitter topper - it flowed smoothly and evenly, with no clumping or dragging of glitter. They glitter dispersed itself evenly over the nail, and I only needed one easy coat over my base of NYC Pool Time. It dried semi-matte so I used a layer of NYC Grand Central Station to add shine and even out the surface.

In retrospect, after applying my topcoat, I realized that I liked the semi-matte look of Moving Sidewalks and so I topped it off with Essie Matte About You.

How awesome is that topper? I love the neon matte glitters and the combination of squares and microglitters. Overall I'm very pleased with the consistency and performance of this glitter topper because it wasn't goopy, thick, or difficult to apply like other glitter toppers I've tried. I didn't get any air bubbles either which is a huge bonus, because glitter toppers always seem to have some bubbles that sneak in. Bonus shot, NYC Pool Time alone. It's a straight forward Tiffany blue cream. This had a watery consistency and I used three coats for opacity. It dried fairly shiny on its own and these shots are without topcoat.

I love that shade of blue! I picked this up in a duo pack which included GCS topcoat at CVS for $2.99. I'd been wanting to try GCS for ages, so this was a great bonus!

Vacation Polish Haul!!!

I'm baaaaaaack!! I hope I was able to keep you entertained while I was away on vacation. I had to scrounge for some swatches and had the very appreciated help of some wonderful guest bloggers to get me through the trip.

I did manage to get some shopping done, albeit not as much as I wanted to. I didn't get to really explore the outlets or get to the mall - I was too busy trying to catch up with old friends and letting LO meet everyone. In terms of nail polish, I was only able to go to Wal-mart and Big Lots - nothing really exciting but I very rarely get to go to those stores when I'm in LA. Here are my scores from those two stores:

I also picked up Duri Rejuvacote but then ended up giving it to one of my BFFs because she needed something for the peelies. I'll have to find it another time. My other BFF was very sweet to pick me up some Bettinas while in Puerto Rico and a Lisa Watier while in Montreal. I wish I knew about Bettina when I was in Puerto Rico - I got married there five years ago and this BFF got married there three years ago. Each time I walked by the display and thought, meh, I already have those colors. I wish I knew how great they were for watermarbling at the time!

Once I got home, my nail mail was all waiting for me. First is my order from Rescue Beauty Lounge's Blogger 2.0 collection:

And then my swap items from a sweet fellow TPFer that I found on MUA. For some reason I recently decided I needed all the polishes from the OPI Pirates of the Caribbean collection, and she happen to have some other polishes that I wanted to check out. My OPI Pirates collection is now complete!

That's it for tonight! I would do a swatch but I still haven't unpacked my bags. I've taken off my nail polish - I was wearing Enchanted Polish Beautiful Rule Breaking Moth for the last half of the vacation and during the wedding. It lasted really well for the entire time I wore it up until today while I was at work, in which two fairly large chips ensued. If I have any energy left, I'll try to do my nails rather than going nekkid. Heaven forbid!!

Pipe Dreams Polish Pink Elephants And Lemonade, Like, Totally Swatch And Review

I haven't been exploring new indie brands lately, mainly to keep my lemmings to a minimum and keep my budget under control. This rule was broken once I laid eyes on Pipe Dreams Polish, a new indie on market that promises explosions of color that is perfect for summer. The first of this line that I have for you is Pink Elephants And Lemonade, a fun combination of pink and yellow hex glitters in a muted teal crelly base. I used two easy coats for this mani and had no difficulty whatsoever with the formula or application. It glided on smoothly with no clumping of glitter and only needed one layer of Essence Gel Look topcoat to add smoothness and shine.

The 2nd polish I tried from Pipe Dreams is a glitter topper called Like, Totally, which is the perfect name for matte neon square and hex glitters in pink, teal, white and gold. Application was disappointing - it's one of those nightmare formulas that are too thick. As a result, the glitters don't spread or flow evenly onto the nail and clump and bald in patches. Phooey. I had to dab some of it on to cover up the bald spots, and then work the clumped up areas to thin them up. This is finished with a thick layer of Poshe to smooth out the unevenness of the application.

Overall, I really liked the glitter in the colored base, Pink Elephants And Pink Lemonade, but the clear glitter topper for me is a fail. I probably wouldn't purchase it knowing how it applies, but now that I have it, I see potential for nail art. I didn't like a full mani of the glitter, but on my other hand I used Like, Totally as a gradient on the tips which makes it less of a glitter bomb. Pipe Dreams has other glitters in colored bases that look really dreamy, and next time I'm in the mood to break my indie budget, I'd be happy to add some more of them to my collection. ETA: I've been contacted by the creator of Pipe Dream Polish and she recommends using thinner in the base of Like, Totally to make application easier. She sent me another topper, Moving Sidewalks, that has a much better formula and application, so she may have reformulated Like, Totally to apply similarly.

And if your curious about the pink base color for Like, Totally, it's Spoiled Fuzzy Dice, a creme that I picked up from the last CVS clearance sale. 49 cents baby! Application was pretty decent considering the cheap price and large paddle brush. The formula wasn't too thick and was opaque at two coats with minimal streaking. I hadn't tried this brand before and I was surprisingly pleased with the result. However, due my clumsiness handling larger brushes I probably won't purchase any unless it's on sale.
