Hare Polish Down On The West Coast Swatch And Review

Thursdays are always the hardest day of the week for me.  It's that day of the week which means the week is almost over, but not quite.  I really can't wait until Friday is over!   One of my favorite past times to get the week to past by quicker is shopping, and there are some good coupon deals out there right now.  If you have the Sunday paper, there's another $1 off WnW, and if you combine that with CVS's B2G1 free deal, you've got quite a bargain!  Also, there's a printable Rimmel $1 off coupon on redplum.com, and if you use two at Walgreens during their BOGO 1/2 off, you can get a bottle of nail polish for as low as 25 cents each.
In continuation of the Hare Viva Los Angeles series, I have for you Down On the West Coast, a delicate and feminine soft pink base embedded with large gold and blue flakes.  Flakes are probably one of my favorite add ins for a polish, second only to contrasting shimmers.  They add color and depth in a sophisticated and lighthearted way.  The pretty soft pink is very flattering as well, which is surprising to me because I'm not usually a fan of pinks with my skin tone.  I think it has the right balance of warmth to it that will make it work with most skin tones as well.  I used three coats here with some mild runaway flakes towards the tips.  I finished with a layer of topcoat for added shine and smoothness.

Nikole says she's obsessed with the marbled effect of the flakes, and I have to say, she's made me obsessed as well!  This pink, gold, and blue combination is truly a perfect representation of the best coast(as Nikole describes this), and in a tongue in cheek kind of way, makes me think of the stereotypical suntanned blonde barbies that LA is known for.  Although I'm not one of those, it makes me smile to know that I've got a little LA on my nails when I'm wearing this!

  1. I'm really digging your Hare LA collection posts. Writing about Hare really seems to bring out your natural writerly rhythmns, Thithi. Very graceful and balanced. And I gotta say that I agree with what Melissa said in the comments of yesterday's post, with the length of your nails now your macro shots are TDF! How interesting about Nikole's obsession with flakes. They are very organic compared to the geometry of regularly shaped components, a quality I've always loved in her polishes....

BTW, when is your birthday? This is your birth month, no? It's mine too. Are we both Geminis?

  2. This looks great on you! I really love this color. It's super pretty. I like that it's girly without being too girly. Those flakies are beautiful as well.
