Hello my dears! Enjoying your week so far? II'm wishing it was weekend again, especially after the quiet rain we had a few days ago. It was so peaceful and I felt unhurried, which is a real treat for me these days. Oh, and dag nabit I saw my wallet get marked down further on another website today. I haven't even gotten the one I ordered yet!
I've been wanting to try the Sally Hansen Triple Shine polishes ever since they got the shelf, and during a recent EB sale at CVS I picked up a couple to try. Today I have a pale lilac shimmer called Drama Sheen. It's a very sheet formula, probably meant to be used as a topper but I used it along here with three coats. The pink shimmer didn't translate too well but the overall appearance is a delicate spring look. No topcoat here; after all the Triple Shine claim is extra luster built right in.
You know I couldn't leave this pretty canvas alone so I sponged a gradient with Sinful Colors Enchanted using a wet makeup sponge, then added two coats of Sally Hansen Fa-la-la Lavender. I thought the light and dark background would play to the full range of the multi shaded purple glitter in this topper. I finished off with a layer of topcoat to hasten drying.
Gradients are a beautiful background for clear glitter toppers because it allows you to better see all the individual glitters. They're relatively easy and quick to do, aside from the long clean up. I'm impressed with the overall combination of these polishes too, because I've managed to create the look of an indie polish but using only drugstore polishes. What's mainstream brand has been impressing you lately?

Oh Thithi!! Gorgeous combo, great looking manicure, brava! The addition of Falalalavender over the base gradient is genius -- the combination of light and dark glitters give the look of one of those inverted gradient stripe manicures or whatever they're called, only with glitter instead of stripes. *scrolls madly up and down the page* Wow, I cannot stop looking at the pics of this one.... *downloads one of Thithi's pics for her screensaver collection*
ReplyDeleteI've been swatching the few Essie polishes, all cremes, that I own but haven't yet worn and it's like a scroll has rolled down from the heavens. I love them to death and have spent hours at TransDesign and NailSuppliesUS filling my carts with Essies to the tune of $120-130. I don't get them, of course, but it's radical behavior for someone who hadn't even hardly swatched an Essie before last week. What are some of your favorite Essies?
I love those reciprocal nail art manis! I couldn't pull it off though, I don't have the patience for striping tape.
DeleteI haven't tried a lot of Essie polishes, but I can usually score a good deal on them here at the nail supplies... if you ever want me to pick any up, let me know! I like the new brown that came out in the winter collection, it's a gorgeous shimmer. I love school of hard rock as well. I think there's a blue that everyone loves, tiny bikini or something like that. I'm looking forward to seeing your swatches!
I love this combination! It's really gorgeous. The colors you used are perfect together and I'm really loving that glitter. The colors remind me of a Hit Polish I have, which is called Enchanted. With all of the indies I've been buying I haven't been giving much attention to drugstore polishes but I have so many in my stash that I need to wear.
ReplyDeleteYou should totally try a gradient with that glitter! I can't never resist a purple glitter, although I probably have too many at this point. I read that you're on a no buy - this may be a good time to swatch those neglected drugstore polishes!
DeleteWow, that turned out beautiful. I love Sally Hansen's polishes. I just wish I could keep up with all the new releases. I haven't tried any of the Triple Shine polishes yet. So many polishes, so little time...
ReplyDeleteIndeed, isn't that always the problem? I wish I had time during the day to swatch. I'm not impressed yet by this particular shade, but I have one more to try before I put in my final verdict. I would definitely suggest waiting to get these on sale if you want to try it, I don't think that they're worth the full price.
